The earlier a child becomes a reader the better; however, a person can become a reader at any age.
Reading for meaning and pleasure are equally important to develop along with the mechanics of reading. Integrating these three elements creates a virtuous cycle that continues to enhance each element and together builds a stronger reader.
Children need a literacy-rich environment including access to and choice of a wide variety of books and materials to read.
