We have an obligation to our children, our teachers and our society to inspire a love of reading as it enables today’s Chicago public school students to become productive citizens of the future.
There are many ways to support Boundless Readers important work including:
Cash Donations
Cash donations are welcomed as we need to raise 100% of our operating funds every year! All cash donations are tax-deductible as permitted by law and our organization is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. You can make a gift anytime by mailing it directly to our offices, calling our offices or by making an online donation through our website. Donations can be made via check, VISA or Mastercard if by mail or phone. Visa, Mastercard and AMEX are accepted online via our Donate Now capabilities through nonprofit partner Network for Good. If you prefer, we can also make wire transfer arrangements by phoning (773-989-8582) or emailing our office..
Pledges are also welcome and can be paid in installments over whatever time period is best for you. Our online "Donate Now" capabilities include installment options. If you wish for it to count in the current school and fiscal year, please be aware that our fiscal year runs from July 1st through June 30th. We welcome pledges and donation installments over any time period.
Matching Gift Donations
Matching Gifts are a great way to double or even triple the impact of your gift. Many employers have a generous Matching Gifts program, but many employees forget to take advantage of this opportunity to increase your investment in Boundless Readers. We will also recognize you for giving the combined total of your personal gift and your company match.
Check with your or your spouse's employer to find out if they offer a Matching Gift program and to get details on the process. Typically, the donor must complete an employer Matching Gift form that includes the date and amount of their gift along with information on the nonprofit organization. Depending on your employer’s policy, this form is then usually sent to by you to Boundless Readers. We will complete the Matching Gift verification form and return it to your employer for payment. More companies are moving to an online system which helps expedite the process.
Many employers will generously match employee donations 1:1 or 2:1 so be sure to ask about Matching Gift programs today! It’s an easy way to make even more of an impact with your dollars.
Appreciated Securities
Appreciated Securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) are an easy and smart way to give because they offer great tax advantages. The best securities to use for charitable giving are those that have increased greatly in value and that you have held for more than one year. You will pay no capital gains tax on the transaction and you can fully deduct the fair market value. It’s a great way to realize some tax savings while also supporting our important work.
Tribute or Memorial Gifts
Tribute and Memorial Gifts are a very thoughtful way to honor anyone with a passion for books, reading, teaching or education.
Consider making a Tribute Gift on behalf of friends and family for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, graduations or to celebrate personal milestones. They will be touched by your thoughtful gift and will be glad to know that your generosity is helping Boundless Readers to inspire a love of reading in children.
Memorial Gifts are also a wonderful way to remember someone with a personal commitment to reading, children or education. We’re happy to talk with you further about ways to memorialize friends and family.
For both Tribute and Memorial Gifts, Boundless Readers will send an acknowledgement of the gift to both the donor and the honoree or honoree's family..
Workplace Giving
Workplace giving programs such as United Way will permit you to direct your giving to a qualified nonprofit like Boundless Readers. You receive full credit for participating in your company's community giving program while also getting to direct your personal contribution to Boundless Readers. During the sign-up and pledge period of your/your spouse's employee giving program, review the distributed materials or ask your workplace giving repesentative or human resources department if your payroll giving can be specifically directed to Boundless Readers.
Planned Giving
Planned Giving is a wonderful way to support the impressive work of Boundless Readers. Our Reading Legacy Society offers many opportunities to include our organization in your estate planning from the very simple to more involved including:
Named Beneficiary
This is a very easy way to include Boundless Readers in your estate plans. Did you know you can name Boundless Readers as the beneficiary of the remainder of your retirement plan after the death of you or your spouse? 100% of the plan’s remaining balance, or whatever you choose to designate, would be available to Boundless Readers and it is not subject to income or estate taxes. You can also name us as the full or partial beneficiary for brokerage accounts and life insurance policies. To name our organization as the beneficiary, contact your financial consultant or plan administrator to complete the required “change of beneficiary” form. You can change your designation at any time and it usually only requires a short one-page form. Please contact us with questions and to let us know about your plans so that we may ensure your wishes are properly implemented and we may recognize you as a member of our Reading Legacy Society. Contact Traci Schnept at tschnepf@boundlessreaders.org or 773.989.8582.
Bequests
Did you know you can make provisions for Boundless Readers in your will? Bequests reduce the size of your taxable estate while supporting our work. You can name a specific bequest of a specified sum of money (or piece of property) or you can leave a percentage of your estate. You can also name Boundless Readers as the “payable-upon-death beneficiary” of your bank accounts. Consult your banker or financial planner for more information on including us in your estate planning or contact Traci Schnepf at tschnepf@boundlessreaders.org or 773.989.8582.
Fundraising Events
Boundless Readers hosts many events throughout the year to raise vital funds for our annual operating budget. Please check the Events section of the website for more information about upcoming events and how you can get involved!
In Kind Donations
Boundless Readers welcomes In Kind Donations as they help us to stretch our operating dollars even further and to invest even more in our programs to benefit teachers and their students.
We have several fundraisers, events and silent auctions throughout the year and are always looking for donations, including silent auction items and event vendor donations (florists, caterers, venues, entertainment). We’d be happy to talk to you about our needs.
Boundless Readers also relies on the generous support of service providers and vendors such as computer and IT consultants, marketing services providers, public relations experts, office supply companies, accountants and lawyers. These donated professional services are very valuable to us as they help keep our expenses low so that we can focus more dollars on our programs.
