New Name, Same Mission: The Rochelle Lee Fund is now Boundless Readers!
The content and design of Boundless Readers programs reflect best practices in professional development and adult learning. Our work is continuous and connected. It includes a well-defined model of effective classroom teaching, focuses on student thinking and learning, models effective strategies, offers substantive collaboration, and is continuously assessed and modified.
Program components include:
- Facilitated professional development in literacy best practices to reach literacy standards;
- Teacher-led, school-based study groups to build expertise and implement best practices;
- Classroom libraries to support student choice and curriculum needs;
- Book discussion groups that develop teachers as readers; and
- Leadership development through targeted training sessions and coaching.
For over 20 years, Boundless Readers has provided Chicago public school teachers with substantive professional development in the field of reading AND high quality children’s books. We aim to improve students’ motivation to read and reading comprehension by providing teachers with the knowledge and the resources to implement literacy best practices.
These practices provide reading opportunities for every student in the classroom. They do not advocate special attention to or mentoring of a select group of students. This democratic approach to reading is a cornerstone of our organization, as we believe that every child should have the opportunity to be a successful reader.
